NT to me though hits the right amount of things to where I immediately want to watch the whole thing.Ībout time control thingy about Unicorn series iirc the novel and OVA anime is a little different.

I'm a UC diehard and wished they'd make more of the painstakingly hand drawn animation, plus I hated how the initially realistic war stories of UC turn into psychic space magic battles. It's quality is pretty close to Unicorn, and story wise it's intriguing to see the world try to make sense of the phenomenon at the end of Unicorn. BD suffered from bad story and animation, 00 had way too much 3D/cel shade and beam effects going on. This is also nearing Gundam's 40th anniversary, so the company's resources are probably strained from all the projects they're cranking out.Ĭomparing NT to OO and Build Divers though, I think the standards were raised in the right areas. Unicorn itself took a few years and OVAs before the story was wrapped up. Evangelion is able to keep up the quality with their theatrical releases because they're so far spaced apart. Production wise the gold stars of animation like 0083 (my absolute favorite in terms of art direction and quality btw) were all hand drawn by today's production standards that amount of detail in animation isn't viable unless a project has way over a year for development.
Most Disney movies from 70 years ago have better 2D animation than most anime today. Akira still has better 2D animation than both and is now 30 years old. Maybe we've reached a ceiling in 2D animation

In one cut you have those great looking mechs, animated with a lot of effort and then it cuts to the car and it looks like te animators forgot how to animate a car. I was mostly disappointed in the car animation. The character animation also was pretty good. I thought the mecha animation was quite great, although it wasn't as greatly directed as Unicorn, so it didn't look as spectacular. I'm no shure, but I think there were no Tomino cut outs in Unicorn, where there is a triangle on the screen showing the pilot.

Instead of a director that directed acclaimed anime like Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal, the original HunterxHunter adaptation, and the most promising show of the next year (Dororo), in this movie there is a director, who makes his debut as a full director. I really do like the new character designs, but the returning ones just look wrong. Instead of character designs by the original character designer from 0079, they have the first time character designer, also known as a brilliant animator (and the director of Gundam Twilight Axis). It's odd that an 8 year old OVA series looks better than a present day cinematic movie release.Īge doesn't really matter for visuals. If any of these policies are violated, moderators may have to call in a colony drop on your post/account.
